Burp and Bath

Shhhh...
Remember I have teenagers. Not a lot of use for burp cloths at my house. Do you see that precious little piggie peeking out on the left. I bought all they had of it (less than two yards). The reason you need to be quiet about my fabric is David called a few minutes ago. He has been in hot water with me all week. Said the kids were going to a movie with friends and did I want to grab a milk shake and go to the fabric store tonight.
He really wants to find LSU fabric for the special request apron, it is for one of the guys he works with. But I know I need to get a list together while he has his wallet open.

Stash Busting
Ready for David to come home from Oregon and deal with the kids for a while. Drivers Ed behind the wheel is this week. That is stressful enough without the other kid thinking the world revolves around her. Consequences for her actions is a tough reality lesson that is being learned the hard way.

More Boxy Pouches
Mason and I ran into Hobby Lobby before the movie today. I picked up some fabric to make a few bags and a knit to make shirt for myself.
Little Boxy Pouch
Mason finished the classroom part of his drivers education yesterday. He had the highest test score in the class. Doesn't surprise me. He will finish the behind the wheel portion next week. Then the scary part begins, he will actually be driving.
Today is the last day to to leave a comment on any or all of my posts dated March 30 thru April 10, 2009 and you will be entered into a drawing to have the monster stuffie come live with you. Limit one comment per post. Considering I usually post once a day you could have 10 entries to win a monster of your own.

Broccoli-Cheese Rice Casserole
From my Aunt Ann (via my sister Val):
Here's the Broccoli-Cheese Rice Casserole. I don't usually use the exact amounts. If I use more broccoli than the recipe calls for, I increase the other ingredients, of course.
Broccoli-Cheese Rice Casserole
2 - 10 oz. pkgs of frozen broccoli (cook slightly, then drain)
Add:
1 can mushroom soup
4-5 fresh mushrooms, cut up (I just use a couple of cans)
Touch of garlic
1 stick margarine
3/4 cup diced onion
1 lb. Velveeta, cubed
1 cup cooked rice
Mix all and bake at 325 for 45 minutes. (I just put mine in the crockpot for 2-3 hours instead.)
Note: I used a jumbo 320z bag of broccoli, 1 1/2 cups of rice before it was cooked and two cans of mushroom soup. It was delicious. As with sewing patterns I don't follow recipes real well either. More of a wing it as I go type of person.
Grape Salad
First I have to tell you the source. Courtney is the cutest little thing at our office. She was the receptionist for about a year, now handles management support services. I don't think she is 5 feet tall in heels and at 7 months pregnant I doubt she weighs 100 pounds. And sweet as can be. She made the best Grape salad and here is the recipe in her words.
It is so easy…
1 bag of red seedless grapes
1 bag of green seedless grapes
1 8oz. thing of cream cheese (softened)
1 8oz. thing of sour cream
½ cup white sugar
1tsp vanilla
Brown sugar to taste
Pecans to taste
- wash grapes
- in a separate bowl, mix cream cheese, sour cream, white sugar and vanilla until well blended
- pour over grapes and mix together ( I usually separate the grapes into 2 bowls and then pour the cream cheese mixture over each bowl, because there are so many grapes and it is hard to mix it all in one bowl )
- sprinkle and mix brown sugar to taste
- top with pecans or mix them in
I always use the fat free or low fat cream cheese and sour cream to make it a little healthier.
Note: a quilt for Courtney's baby shower will be started shortly.

Boxy Pouch Bigger
Worked out perfectly for a bigger Boxy Pouch. It would make a nice travel size bag for toiletries. Instead of the 8x6 pieces of fabric with the 9 inch zipper. I used 2 pieces of fabric 12x10 inches. I have a little 6 inch pale green zipper that was also sent to me. Hopefully tonight it will find a little boxy pouch of its own. So far I have used all scrap fabric and bought nothing to make these little pouches. The fusible fleece onces are so much nicer. But the plain fabric ones fit nicely into a standard envelop, and I don't think they will require any additional postage. A couple of them are going in the mail today.
I got my car back yesterday after almost a month of trying to get it repaired from the tire accident. And I get to take it back to them today. The low tire pressure sensor isn't working correctly. I assume it will take them a few more days to fix it. ARGH!!! I miss driving my car.

Here is part of my project plan while he is gone:
Platypus Stuffie
Patchwork pin cushion
Boxy Pouch
Art Airplane Binder
The question is will the kids leave me alone long enough to get anything done?
Mason is going through Drivers Ed this week and next. He watched Red Asphalt 3 on Wednesday. I can't complain Mason is usually a pretty easy kid, not a risk taker to begin with. But I don't think he will be speeding anytime soon.

April Fools
Maybe just the thought of us playing a practical joke is joke enough for both of them. Sure will keep them on their toes today.
Too much work going on this week and not enough play time.
