Wooly Nylon

I do feel much better today compared to last Thursday and Friday. Not 100%, still exhausted but better. Still no call back from the doctors office. I will take no news as good news.
In case you missed it in their ad. Among other things Joann's has thread 50% off this coming weekend. 4th-6th, I am making my list. Keeping myself stocked in serger, embroidery, bobbin and sewing thread has been a challenge this past year. On my list is some woolly nylon thread for the serger. It is a thicker, stretchy, yarn like thread.

The card table play house did arrive in Iowa. Don't know if the kids have played with it since it was going to and will be staying at their grandmothers house. Playhouse #2 for the twins is taunting me to start sewing it. I know the girls will enjoy it, I guess I am still a little bitter with the way their dad initially reacted to it.

When Pigs Fly

Simplicity came out with their new spring patterns a few weeks ago. I picked up a pattern for pigs, cows and horses. I am a little disappointed in the pattern it is the same body and head for all of them. Which of course they really don't have the same shape head. I will finish them but like the free pig pattern at nunodoll better.

Had a CT scan on Friday for a kidney stone. Never did hear the final results from my doctor. Popping pain meds and trying to sleep as much as I can. Hopefully I will get some energy back this week and life back to normal.

Slow as a Turtle

Seems like my sewing projects are moving as slow as a turtle lately. I think I am finally down to a small 10 inch piece of the green gingham fabric. I started with several yards of it from my Mom's stash.
A few more embroidered towels all boxed up to send to my mother. Hearts appropriate for the upcoming Valentines holiday.

Towel Design

Don't ask me how I ran across this photo on the web but I thought it was too funny not share. If you don't recall Mason's bathroom rug has a big arrow that points to the toilet, so he does have a sense of humor.
What do you think? Should I make him a towel like this for his birthday? Pretty simple instructions.

Family Affair

I am pretty sure my cousin doesn't follow my blog so I am safe to post these photos.
He recently got married and towels for the whole family just seemed appropriate.

Doing dishes should be a family affair.
And extras for my mother's stash.
Maybe I will do some real sewing tomorrow.

Sugar Mold

Repoduction Sugar Mold, most people use these for candle holders or centerpieces. I have wanted one for a while to replace the coffee mug I kept my sewing utensils and scissors in. Finally convinced David I couldn't live without it.
With the serger thread moved to the hanging shelf I used the space under the ribbon for the button jars. They sure do come in handy when looking for the right color button. I find when I can see things I have a better shot of using them. Still need to find a project that will use up a significant amount of the tiny buttons.

If you can't tell I am trying to start out my 2011 year well organized. David is on call for work this weekend so we can't venture too far from the house. Hope to get a bit of sewing accomplished.

Play House Finished

The card table play house is officially finished and on its way to its new home. I almost hate to post photos because you have seen it all as I have worked on it for the last 6 weeks.
It was so cold and windy but I wanted photos with some decent lighting so I braved the windchill before the snow came in Sunday.

This might have been one detail you didn't see. I made a couple pockets on the inside of one of the walls. So while the kids were playing they could hide their treasures.
And for the  top I went for simple straight roads without the center lines.

I gave up counting but there are at least 40 different fabrics somewhere in this play house. One thing I can guarantee is there will never be another one just like it. It is truly one of a kind. I hope the kids enjoy a few hours of play with the play house.

Now to start work on the play house for the twins.

Shelves

It took 7 trips to the garage to find all the right tools.... level, screws, screw driver, drill bits, hammer, multiple trips for the right drill bit...
But the end result was a level shelf to store my serger thread. It looks great and gave me some space back on my fabric shelves. Looks like I need more thread.
While I had out all the tools I hung up the other little shelf we bought at the antique mall. It should be able to hold some other sewing accessories. Haven't quite decided what to put in it yet.
And with the brown thread in the serger I put together another flannel blanket.

We had several inches of snow on Monday. Still have snow on the ground but roads are totally clear. Which is the perfect way to have snow.

Playhouse Roof

I want something simple for the roof of the playhouse.

Since it is the top of the card table I thought it needed to have a play purpose other than just plain fabric. I don't want to totally distract from the playhouse either. One version had a whole appliqued farm on it, including tiny pigs. For the sake of my sanity I scaled it back to just the roads. What do you think?
I bought the foundation fabrics for the twin girls playhouse today. Haven't even started it and I think I am sick of the "cotton candy" fabrics.

Bad Kitty

I have to confess why I have had so much sewing time this week. David and Mason went to East Tennessee to visit the in-laws. They will be home a little later today. It sure has been quiet without them. But a nice quiet. Notice anything different about the red heart? The bobbin tension had an issue that I didn't notice. I finished it anyway. Hopefully she can use the bad kitty for washing her car or scrubbing the bathroom. Shouldn't have been multitasking.
I am glad I finally tried making a mini pieced house. It would be fun to do a whole neighborhood of these. I still need to quilt it but decided I should focus on the embroidering before I ruined another towel.

Break

I hope it doesn't rain this week because the play house does not have a roof and it isn't looking too promising over the next couple of days. Instead I took a break to do some other sewing. Zippered portfolio with pocket and matching business card holder. Yes there are a couple extras that I won't show you who they are monogramed for.
The blanket has been done for a while. Kaia is 8 so I think she will like it.
And another business card holder and a couple more cell phone pouches to go to the nursing home. U of Memphis was a special request.

You've Got Mail

It has been a long day of sewing and crafting. A few letters to go along with the play house. It has a mail box, so it had to have mail. I have to admit when I put the dog "stamp" on the envelope and I let out a little chuckle. It is pretty darn cute.

Details

Just wrapping up a few final details on the play house walls. Another name sign.
Details on the tractor wheel.
Lady bug on the corn husk. So glad to have the corn done.
Door knob for the main door.
Now the play house needs a roof. I have a few ideas in my head.
