4H

Work at my office is creeping into my sewing time, actually totally consumed it the past week or so. Hopefully it will settle down soon and let me get back to some regularly scheduled crafting. My cousin was married last weekend. These did not make it to the wedding, nor did I for several reasons.
Hopefully the package is just delayed in transit and not totally lost.
Monogrammed linen napkins, gotta love that serger.
And who can't use more kitchen towels. The four H's remind me of my days in 4-H. I could almost remember the entire pledge.
I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
my heart to greater loyalty,
my hands to larger service
and my health to better living,
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.
Wow that sure brings back memories. Was anyone else in 4H?

Kinda Quiet

I feel like I have been kind of quiet this week. I think maybe just preoccupied with life.
One birthday at the office this week and one the first week of Novmeber and then I have a break until March. Good thing because I have lots to get done before Christmas.

2nd Longest Day

It is going to be another long day today. Mason is traveling back home from his Grandparents in East TN. His 7 hour trip there took him 9 hours. Stuck in traffic near Knoxville. Went 3 miles in two hours. But it does sound like he enjoyed the whole trip so far. Hopefully it will be uneventful on the way home.

I got no sewing done over the weekend. David monopolized all my time in the garage. The garage looks fabulous. Well it will look fabulous once the trash man comes by and we make a couple trips to our friends house for a garage sale this week.

Longest Day

Today is going to be the longest day ever. Mason is on fall break from the University of Memphis. He somehow convinced us that he should drive the 7 hours to East TN to see his grandparents and aunt for the weekend. We negotiated for weeks, at one point I told him he needed to change his major to Law because he was relentless. We finally gave in if his friend Megan went with him.

He hit the road this morning and I haven't called or texted him at all. My sister in law is bugging him enough for everyone right now.

Going to be a super quiet weekend at the house. Since Kim ran away and moved in with her biological mother. And now Mason gone for 4 days. What am I going to do with myself all weekend?

Whew...

The Halloween treat bags are done. Well the eight bags are sewn. They don't have any contents yet. We have had too many sweet treats at the office this past month. I think I am going to put fruit in the bags instead of candy.
Several rolled edge napkins are done. Too many to count. The tan linen turned out nice. Great texture to it. The Purina checkerboard pajama pants are done. I sure hope they fit. Button fly and elastic around the ankles. I serged the inside seams, hope they hold up. I get a little dizzy looking at them for too long. Need to find thread to match this blue to serge a rolled edge scarf.

Several items for my cousins wedding were completed. You don't get to see photos until after the wedding.

We tried a new resturant yesterday for lunch called Eat Well Sushi Buffet. They call it a modern Japanese sushi buffet. Very neat place. The sushi was amazing. Got to try several types that I wouldn't have normally ordered. Although I was not brave enough to try the octopus, Mason did. He said it tasted like octopus, so I am glad I didn't try it.

Feels Like Fall

Yes another kitchen towel. For a Fall swap on SwapBot.
And the "Purina" checkerboard fabric has been cut. But that is as far as I got. I want to try the seams with the serger. I was waiting for cooler weather to work with the flannel.
Won't get much done today. Have to make a few batches of brownies after work. Another birthday for one of the ladies that works for me. I think I have two more birthdays at the office in the next few weeks and then none until March. That should give me a break over the holidays and beyond.

Friends

Blogger was giving me grief uploading photos, hence the numerous posts.
Here is the new serger. We became friends this morning.
Serged a rolled edge on some woven fabric making four 18x18 inch napkins. These were so simple to make. I did get some fray check yesterday. It is recommended that you use it for the cut threads. Really odd getting used to the serger and keeping an eye on the cutting blade instead of the needle.
After three years of faithful service David's old fleece blanket has been retired. This is his new one. Fleece on one side and flannel on the other. It is officially Buttercup approved.

More

I have been working on the Halloween treat bags. I still have some work to do but I think the most time consuming part of the embroidery is done with.
My mom sent me some bigger buttons to use on my bags. Nice not to have to go buy any more for a while.
Found a lot of 35 zippers for $10 on Craigslist. The seller ended up only living 2 streets over from our house.

Catch Up

Playing catch up this weekend.
The second birthday towel for my intern. She was a good sport about not getting both on Friday.
And there is a second birthday at the office this week. Her two dogs are her kids.
I was able to do these in between trying to rethread the serger yesterday.

The Serger

I have been going nonstop since 6:30 this morning. Now I am too lazy to go back upstairs to get a photo of the new serger. It is a Brother 1034d. Took forever using the Walmart Site to Store option but it did finally arrive. In case you were wondering it is just under $200. So far I have just been practicing on it. But I do have a project picked out to work on first thing in the morning.

All the online reviews for any serger talk about how complicated they are to thread. Mine came pre-threaded with four different colors which I thought would be very helpful. I was going to change out each thread one at a time so I wouldn't mess it up. Well that just frustrated me even more. The video that came with it even suggested just knotting the new thread to the old to get it loaded correctly. I just ended up just pulling all the color coded threads and threading it with my cones of white. Worked just fine and should have done it hours earlier.

I even felt confident enough to remove the finger-thingy and the left needle so I could try a rolled edge. Worked great. It does so many different types of stitches using a miriad of settings on all the dials and knobs it is going to take a while to get used to it. As long as I keep the instruction book handy I think I will be fine.

Finally Friday

My intern has a birthday over the weekend so we celebrated today at the office.
I told her I owe her the second towel. I just couldn't get to it last night. I ended up making Cream Soda cupcakes from scratch for her so she forgave me.

I have had two migraines this week. Last night was horrible, worst I have had in a long time. Finally figured out the source, another cracker that has garlic powder in it. Needless to say I am a bit exhausted from not sleeping.

David sent me a text a little bit ago. My toy is in... finally my serger has arrived. Can't wait to play with it this weekend. Hmmm... What will I make first? I actually have no idea. But I did stock up on some larger cones of thread just in case.
