Bad Idea

Instead of working on the real Purina quilt this weekend I made lined zippered bags. I actually made more than this. I would like to tell you that I am not posting a photo of the other ones because they are a suprise for someone. But that isn't the case. I actually packaged them up to mail and forgot to take a photo.

And when you think something is going to be a bad idea it probably is. For a couple of months I wanted to wash the denim rug. But I have heard people having problems washing rag quilts in front load washing machines. At least I waited until all the household laundry was done before I did it. The good news is I do know where the secondary filter is on my front load washer. What a mess I created. I found 85 cents, the missing button to a blazer and a handful of denim threads in the filter. Not to mention another handful of threads I pick out from inside the washer. Another handful in the lint trap in the dryer and another handful picked off the three towels I washed with it.

Overall just a bad idea. But the denium rug is looking awesome, so much softer than before. I would love to wash it again someday.

Attitude

I promised you a photo.

A little scrap from the Yee Haw quilt became the finishing touch on Zippity's behind.

And when his zipper isn't all the way open he shows a bit of his attitude. Kind of like dealing with teenagers on Monday mornings.

Zippity

I had a few minutes between loads of laundry. By the time I got to this point I was getting excited.

I think he turned out pretty good, my favorite part I forgot to take a photo of... an appliqued heart on his backside. I see more critters in my future.

The Imposter

It looks like a Purina checkerboard but it isn't THE Purina quilt. The swap was Red. One of my favorite colors. So a mini table topper, pouch bag and a stuffed doggie bone for her little Chihuahua.
And I even ordered myself some red measuring spoons this week.

Lady Bug Mini

I bought the fabulous new lady bug fabric this week and didn't even use it.

I had some seersucker fabric from a craigslist purchase last fall. Made a little doll quilt, which is also a great table topper size. It ended up around 20 x 20 inches. I like that the colors are not a traditional red lady bug.

I didn't have much of the pink seersucker for the back. Pieced a few more squares together. I think my swap partner should enjoy it. Now just to make 4 more lady bug projects.

At It Again

Busy week but I did find time to shop a little again

Adorable frog print for a couple special projects. And had to buy the Tweety print, it was on clearance. I needed some lady bug prints for a swapbot swap I am in . Have to send 5 lady bug themed items.

Project list for the weekend:

Purina quilt - I would like to get it hand tied with buttons

Lady Bug swap- Make tote, pouch bag, maybe a key chain (if I can find my d-rings)

Red swap- I am sure I have red fabric around to make a pouch to send.

Zipper Critter- This guy is tormenting me.

Frog project- I should have time to at least start.

Scrappy Quilt- Only if I finish the others will I play with this. I promise.

Scrappy Sashing

So I went shopping yesterday for sashing fabric for my scrappy quilt. I found this fabulous blue and delicious green print to keep it bright. Picked up some simple white on white print while I was there.

Love the blue, hate the green print. Well actually I love the green print just not with the blocks, way too busy.

So the green print now stands alone. It will become part of something yummy, just not the scrap quilt.

And look at the adorable ladybug I got in the mail yesterday from the Craft for a Craft swap on swapbot. I have got to get a better photo of him, he is adorable. I wish I knew how to crochet and make something this cute.

Cool with a Capital C

This is cool with a capital C. I am surprised I hadn't run across this before.

Little Birdie secrets posted her version of this fabulous idea on Mitsy's blog. And you also need to check out Mitsy's etsy site. I fell in love with her ceramics a few months ago. If anyone is looking for a birthday present for me, I would take any of her mini ceramic feelings.

Sashing choices

The scrappy blocks need a small sashing of white. But what color to choose for a larger sashing? Black?

Brown ?

Blue?

Right now I am leaning towards the black with blue as its runner up. Yikes, the more I look at the photos I am thinking blue. I want it to remain light, bright and colorful. Red or Pink would just be too over the top. Yellow too blah. Maybe it is the polka dots on the black that is throwing me off. Too many choices.

No sewing tonight. Open house at the school. I get to follow Mason's class schedule, 15 minutes with each teacher he has. Note to self: wear quiet, comfortable shoes. My heels tapping down the hall bring too many annoyed looks.

Zipper... No Critter

Not too bad on my weekend project list. Work on the Purina Quilt - I did get as far as I wanted. Just waiting until I am motivated to quilt it. Labor Day is fast approaching.
Make one Zipper Critter - Got a bit side tracked on the scrappy blocks. I did pick out a metal toothed zipper and want to use some of this denim on the critter. Maybe later in the week.
Finish Retro Baby Bibs - Done
Sew a few of my own banana slices - I made two of them. Mason said they looked like buttons not bananas. I put two pieces of felt together. I think I need to try 3 or 4 layers. They were so thin I wouldn't have put them in my Rice Krispies this morning.
And revamp Mason's closet - Completely torn apart. Spakled all of the nail holes. Need to pick up a small roller and tray on the way home today. Finally convinced myself it was going to be much easier to paint before I put up the shelving. How dare I actually do something the smart way.
