Boy Toys

The boys got a new red toy to match the grey toy.

I don't think they are going to miss me at all. Even the grocery shopping went to bachelor mode this week. Mason said they were lining up strippers for their superbowl party next weekend. If you know my husband or son at all you would know how absurd that sounds, neither one of them even watch football.

I am all for making my life easier with gadgets but how hard is it to put pins into a pin cushion and pull them out.

I can't believe someone actually thought it was so difficult they needed to make a dispenser for pins. Normally $59 but you can find them on sale for $29.

I have to pin every curved seam in the double wedding ring quilt and I never once was annoyed enough by my pin cushion that I thought I would need to go spend $29 on a gadget to replace it.

My craft room is almost all packed. No sewing for me for at least 60 days. Well no sewing sewing except the double wedding ring quilt. I have packed it in my suit case so I can sew while living in the hotel. While packing all my fabric and unfinished projects I came to the realization that I may be in the need of some serious hoarders therapy.

Yes there is a reason for the deep cleaning. Getting ready for movers. Yes, movers. I am heading north to Iowa in the near future. Yikes a little scary and nervous but I am also excited to see where this takes me.

It has been a long time since I had the embroidery machine going.

I made a commitment to a swap and need to get it done and shipped by this weekend. My life is about to get turned upside down for a couple months. More on that soon.

Stages

I have been busy getting various stages of the double wedding ring quilt completed.

Put together three rings to make sue it is what I was expecting. Seriously thought about leaving it as a table runner and calling it done.

But then what would I do with all of these pieces.

And the ones waiting to be pressed.

And the pieces that almost look like completed rings.

And the stacks in the chair next to my sewing machine. All the little pieces including the connecting corners are sewn. Should start seeing progress happen more quickly now. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Another repurpose

Another one of Mason's old polos repurposed into a baby onesie. Bias tape from my Mom's stash.

I had cut this out months ago so it was nice to get it off the sewing table. The guys are on Dragonball Z DVD marathon again today. So I am enjoying the excuse to sew.

The MRI on David's back showed a bulging disc. Luckily no need for surgery. However we did order him an inversion table today. Now that should be quite entertaining.

Sunshine

I found fabric for the big field pieces of the double wedding ring quilt. It is in the washer right now. I thought I found fabric for the ends of the arcs. Got home and it just didn't work for me. Two more fabric ships are on the agenda for Friday. Guess I should take a couple arcs with me so I don't buy more unneeded fabric.

While enjoying the sunshine in my seeing room I Whipped up a couple water bottle holders out of repurposed pants my mother sent me. Hah, now I can send them back to her.

And I played with the apple core template I bought with some of my Christmas gift card money. I need lots of practice with those curves before I try a bigger version.

Now to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and 60 degree weather.

Messenger Bag

Mason's old cargo shorts have been repurposed into a messenger bag.

A pocket on the back.

Another on on the front.

Some old navy duck cloth from my Mom's stash for the interior. The divider is from a leg of an old pair of my Mom's pants she sent me. And more of the cargo shorts for some inside pockets.

An old tshirt of Mason's for the flap. It has a layer of fusible fleece in the middle to give it some stability.

Just need to find some hardware to repurpose for the strap.

Hope the tshirt doesn't offend anyone. I thought it was too funny not to use and it fits the personality of the person that is getting the bag.

Sleeves

I am not thrilled with the detail on the sleeves. I couldn't find any more of the pink fabric so I had to use what I had.

Now just to finish the left handed pocket and I can mail it. The left handed pocket should be a clue where the sweatshirts are getting sent.

A pile of clothes to be repurposed into something more useful. Stay tuned for progress on that project.

Seamless Arc

I decided to do a seamless arc for the test quilt. All of the melon/footballs are sewn.

Need to run get more thread to sew them to the centers. 3 rings didn't seem too bad. I need to make 72 rings for the actual wedding quilt. Yikes. I had better get busy. Glad I have until June.

Peewee Pjs

This is the pattern in the Sew It All magazine that I wanted to try.

I have a stack of Mason's old polos to repurpose. Pretty quick using the hem of the shirt for the hem of the pants. Switching to 3 threads in the serger and using wooly nylon thread in the upper and lower loopers give the seams a great stretch. Wish I had tried that earlier.

Minutes to Spare

I finished the puffy biscuit quilt with about 15 minutes to spare.

It is approximately 30 x 36 inches. 120 individual 3 inch puffs. I lost count but it is somewhere around 32 different fabrics.

Cotton, flannel, fleece, minky, fake fur, chenille, sequins, textured fleece, terry cloth, I am sure I am forgetting something else.

My decision has been made I am going to give it away during Sew Mama Sew giveaway day next week. The decision was pretty easy, it is so darn stinking cute I want to keep it. Which is exactly why I need to give it away.

My double wedding ring templates arrived this afternoon. I think I am going to make a three ring table runner to test them before I start cutting into the actual quilt fabric.

If you wanted me to change anything about the quilt don't tell me. I have already sewn half of them together.

Mason is home from school early today. Finals start later in the week and a couple professors have canceled classes. I asked him what he thought about the quilt... his opinion... Interesting. Not sure if that is good or bad. Then he proceeded to poke at every biscuit trying to pop them like bubble wrap. Silly boy.

Lazy Sunday

I had one lazy Sunday. Besides watching a whole season of Teen Mom 2 I did get a little grocery shipping done.

And look what I found in the check out line. Pretty neat magazine. Only their third issue. And there is one project calling my name that I am trying to ignore. Hate that crazy voice that tries to distract me.

Double wedding ring templates should arrive today. Gotta finish the puffy biscuit quilt before then. And maybe The project from the magazine. Wish me luck.

The other half have three sides sewn and ready to be stuffed.

I need to buy another 1/2 yard of pink fabric to finish the sleeves and add a pocket.

David is back at work today. Bleeding has stopped and he is finally feeling better. Glad that little incident is over.

I got quite a bit of embroidery done while babysitting him.

Three more pieces if it to embroider. I will probably save it for some downtime.

Busy doing other little things like changing the supply line to one of the toilets that started leaking. Funny how those things happen when David is unable to do them.

My Black Friday

Since I couldn't go to any of the black Friday sales in the stores this year I decided to splurge on ordering the acrylic templates for the double wedding ring.

I just couldn't see myself cutting out all the pieces by hand.

Can't wait to get David to the doctor tomorrow. Been a long, long weekend.

So Much for Sewing

Looks like there won't be any sewing this weekend.
I am on David watch until he can get into the Ear Nose Throat doctor on Monday. Exhausted. Two trips to the ER since Thursday afternoon, and I am sleeping on the sofa. I lost count somewhere after the 10th nose bleed. I have a photo of him in the back of the ambulance but he would be furious if I shared it with everyone, it wasn't his finest moment. And now he has a tube hanging out of his nose taped to his cheek, not a flattering look.

There is a funny story in all of this. David was already strapped in the ambulance with the EMTs and two of the firemen were in the house packing up. I was joking that the neighbors were going to think I beat him since he came out of the house holding his bloody face. The fireman said I should run out in the yard after him and yell "I told you to wash those dishes, you better do it next time." Of course later in the ER David said that when I was out of the room the ER nurse asked him if anyone had been physically abusing him.

I think I may have some hand embroidery I can work on.

Early Christmas

I have been wanting one of these for over a year now. The star finally alligned... It was on sale, and had a coupon for an additional 30% off and another $50 rebate.

I promised David if I didn't have to wait until Christmas to open it I would make him cookies tomorrow.

And for my sister... it is the Professional 600 Series, 6 quart capacity, retail $499, final price $229 plus tax. And yes I got the red one. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow.

But they are worth the effort. And an added thanks goes to my mother or grandmother for their stash. The black piping was perfect. Once upon a time someone paid 19 cents for the package of piping.

Surgery went well. Although my stay got extended an extra day.

Got to tired of looking at my feet.

The food wasn't too bad. I just couldn't stomach it. Finally got out of hospital on Saturday late afternoon. Slept all day yesterday and worked from home today. Starting to feel better.

My sister mentioned mittens made from recycled sweaters this week. I knew I had seen some them in the past. I found this video a while back. The pattern is on the same page towards the bottom.
Would be great with the serger.

I doubt I have any wool sweaters in my recycled clothing boxes. Wonder how cotton or acrylic would work.

Lounging

Decided it was time to make some new smaller lounge pants. I can pull up my old ones over my chest. Not a real flattering look. Cute piping detail on the pockets of the new ones.

Gallbladder surgery scheduled for next Friday. So having lounge pants that fit is essential for quicker recovery.

Recycled a couple T-shirts into T-shirt yarn. Nope I am not going to learn how to crochet they are going to my mom. She will have to figure out what to do with them.

I have started picking up fabrics for a quilt for my nephews wedding.

These are what I have come up with so far. Now that I look at them from a distance I don't like the lightest green or tan.

And I have a couple more browns from my moms stash that she made her quilt from. Might be fun to incorporate those also.

It is now a baby jacket. The only problem I have is what to use for the front closure.

T shirt redo

Still trying to get the hang of the blogpress app. The photos are in reverse order. Started out with a tshirt I loved but felt like it was strangling me. Cut off the ribbing. Made the scoop neck a little lower. Added som seam binding. It feel so much more comfortable.

I will give you the inside scoop on another one of my weight loss tools. Nike + GPS.

It tracks Time, Distance and Calories burned for running and walking.

I have an iPhone so I can't tell you how it works on just a iPod Touch. But is a pretty darn cool tool on the iPhone. Well worth the $1.99 for the App. I have found it pushes me to continually set new goals. Even Mason will ask me if we have beat our time or distance. The maps are extremely accurate, always fun to see where I slow down or speed up. If you have an iPhone you need to add it to your collection. And if you don't have an iPhone get one and then get the App.

I told you I had become a bit obsessed with tracking everything. The break was much needed.

It has been a long time ago but it seemed like it was pretty open as default. I have since gone back and made my settings less restrictive. Having friends on the site is part of the inspiration.

Words of warning, don't try to be a hero and set your calorie goal super low. Just use what they suggest and modify after a few weeks. Slow and steady will win the race.

Want to be really inspired... go to their Forums... Fitness and Exercise... "Post your before and after pics", 3rd option down in the forum. Amazing photos that will totally blow you away. The other forums have great advice also but the pics are such great motivation.

Break

For 6 months I have been religiously tracking :

Calories I consumed.
Calories I burn.
Carbs I consumed.
Blood sugar numbers.
My weight.
Number of revolutions on the elliptical.
Miles per hour I walked/ran.
How many minutes I walked/ran.
How many times a week I worked out.
How hot it was when I worked out.

Not to mention the company I work for has been in and out of bankruptcy in the past 4 months. Now sold and I will be unemployed by mid October. Teenager we adopted 3 years ago, the one that ran away last fall is now pregnant.

Several of my online friends from a couple different groups were worried about me the past week. I am fine, just needed a break. I gave myself 7 days to ignore everyone. Feel much better today.

Just had to give myself permission to not care for a a while.

In case you are curious and to brag a bit... I have lost 50 pounds since February. That was before the past week of over indulgence but I see a two mile run in my future tonight so I am really not worried about it.

Thankful

I put just over 1000 miles on my car this weekend driving to my Mom's house in southern Iowa and back home. Got home Sunday afternoon, drove my car to work and back home Monday. Left my car at home today so Mason could wash it.

He called me around 10am to tell me that he couldn't start my car to get it out of the garage. Yep, the battery is dead. I am so thankful it didn't die anywhere on the trip. Heat index pushing 116 today no wonder it died.

Michele at Nastolgic Cafe posted about these cute headbands. For fear I will lose the link I thought I had better post here.

This is the one Michele made. Love the white. I just cleaned out our closet a couple weekends ago. What a great way to recycle some of the tshirts before David turns them into rags.

I am still working on my sewing list for the weekend. Heat index is to top 110 degrees by tomorrow. Good to plan on being indoors.

Statistics

Cars 2 topped the box office this weekend.

Glad I could be a part of the statistics.

And Bad Teacher took the #2 spot. I was part of that statistic also.

I normally don't like to go to movie theaters for many reasons but the teenager convinced me both days. I enjoyed Cars 2 much more than Bad Teacher. Needless to say another unproductive weekend considering the amount of time I spent at the theater.

Good news is a have a three day weekend coming up. Working on my list now.

Tunics

Twins Playhouse Done

Glad to finally pack this to deliver to the twins.

It was the chalk board that was the final obstacle to tackle. Took four attempts to find a solution. Finally used a piece of cardstock and used the chalk board spray paint on it.

David will deliver it to their Dad in the morning. No more play houses for a little while for me.

Hazardous

We had a few extra bags of trash from the long holiday weekend. Wednesday morning I took them to the curb and then took the big rolling cart down the hill. Unfortunately my shoes were wet from walking in the grass. I slipped and fell. Who knew trash was so hazardous. After a trip to the doctors office later in the day I did have good news. I did not break either ankle. But both ankles were sprained, the achillies tendon on my left foot did not detach but is torn.

Obviously the left one a bit more damaged than the right. The swelling has actually gone down quite alot, still not running any races yet. Trash is now the teenage boys job.

Memorial Weekend

Saturday was spent washing and vacuuming the cars. Luckily Mason did most of it. I spent most of the day running between the driveway helping Mason and the upstairs spare bedroom closet helping David. I got nothing done I wanted to.

Sunday was spent doing yard work and gardening. We also bought a new swing for the backyard. Instructions said it would take 30 minutes. Mason and I spent two hours working on it. I think most of that time was spent reading the instructions 5 or 6 times to understand what they meant.

And this morning was more gardening. We got the water system all setup. If I can just figure out how to program the timer I will have a pretty hassle free garden all summer long.

Heading outside to enjoy the swing and watch David grill. No rain in the forecast which means no sewing in the forecast.

Rainy Day

It has rained all morning. Which is a good thing it gave me time to work on the twins playhouse.

The Cafe needs a little "Today's Special" board in the upper right corner. My neighborhood Hancock Fabrics doesn't have any chalkboard fabric. I will be on a mission this week to find some. The overall construction is done. When I finally got the walls sewn together I really fell in love with the whole playhouse again. Just need to create a few accessories to go with it.

When the rain stops I will set it up in the backyard and get some photos of it.

A little more work done on the twins playhouse.

Addison and Kaylee will be able to change the name of the cafe depending on who is running it for the day. Just need to cut a hole for the window, add the curtains and this side will be done.

I need to figure out how to blog from my iPhone so I keep you more up to date. The 14 bags of lawn cuttings and huge pile of branches by the curb are proof that I have been busy.

I created my Etsy account over two years ago but never put anything in the store. One of the ladies at my office has been pestering me nonstop to setup the store. She wanted to buy a couple things and I wouldn't take her money. I finally caved this weekend. Mason had some free time so I have put him in charge of that project.
